A recent survey conducted by Turning Point Whitman\u00ae has reported some shocking results. According to the survey conducted on September 3, over 72 percent of white students at Whitman \u201chave experienced severe discrimination.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese results are really tragic\u201d said Turning Point Whitman\u2019s lead chairman Shen Bapiro. \u201cThis has really made me see this school in a new light.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ebenezer Smith, the faculty representative of Turning point Whitman, gave his two cents. \u201cWhen the United States ended racism with the Civil Rights Act of 1964, I thought I would never see something like this again\u201d said the US History teacher, \u201cI guess I was wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many students who took part in the survey had thoughts to share as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs a white student, I have found it really difficult to fit in amongst my peers here at Whitman\u201d said sophomore Hubert Plant Emoji. \u201cI feel like we need to come together as a community and stand up for us white people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One student, who chooses to remain anonymous, courageously came forward with their story of experiencing hardship due to his white skin. He recalls being \u201cmade fun of\u201d because he can\u2019t \u201cjump very high.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think people understand how hurtful these stereotypes can be,\u201d he said. \u201cRacism is not cool.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This kind of injustice against caucasians doesn\u2019t just happen in school. Whitman student and Bethesda Country club member Dylan White recalls a time that a country club waiter \u201crefused to give him a second serving of dessert.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many students have discussed the creation of a White Student Union. This movement, spearheaded by Plant Emoji and Bapiro, is already gaining a lot of traction with administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
